Los Angeles Kings Notes

PLAYER NOTES:

KINGS CALDER CANDIDATES: The Kings boast two of the NHL’s best rookies with defenseman Drew Doughty and goaltender Jonathan Quick (see numbers below). The Kings have had one Calder Trophy recipient in club history (Luc Robitaille in 1986-97).

DOUGHTY DOING IT WELL: Drew Doughty, the second overall pick in last summer’s draft, leads all rookies (and the Kings) with 23:43 average time-on-ice. He has played at least 20 minutes in 48 of 52 games this season (25-plus minutes in 22 games and a season-high 29:04 Nov. 22 vs. Colorado). Doughty has 15 points this season (3-12=15), tied for second most among rookie blue-liners. He’s first among rookies with 71 blocked shots.

QUICK GETS NO. 1 STAR OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Quick was named the NHL First Star of the Week (ending Feb. 8) after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.67 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and one shutout in three games last week. Among NHL rookie goaltenders Quick ranks second with a 2.33 GAA, third with 11 wins and second with a .920 save percentage. Among all NHL goaltenders he ranks seventh in GAA and 10th in save percentage. Quick was named the NHL Third Star of the Week Dec. 28.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE: Kings captain and all-star Dustin Brown leads the Kings (third in the NHL) with 190 hits. Last season he led the NHL with 311 hits. Brown is donating $50 for every hit this season to KaBOOM! For more information log onto www.lakings.com/kaboom. Brown is sixth in the NHL with 215 shots on goal. Brown has 13 points in the last 10 games (6-7=13) and multi-point games in four of the last eight.

Kopitar has 10 points in the last 10 games (5-5=10) and has 25 points in the last 29 games (11-14=25). Kopitar has also scored in three of the last four games (4-1=5).

Of Preissing’s 31 career goals, 15 have come with the man advantage. *One of Harrold’s goals came when he was playing forward.

ALSO NOTEWORTHY: Jarret Stoll is eighth in the NHL in faceoff win percentage (56.9)…Michal Handzus has 24 points (10-14=24) in 53 games this season. He had 21 points (7=14=21) in 82 games last year. TIP-A-KING: Come to the leading entertainment destination for all of Los Angeles and the new event capital of the world – L.A. LIVE - at Tip-A-King 2009 Presented By D.I.S.C. Sports & Spine Center in Marina del Rey, the official medical center for the Los Angeles Kings. Scheduled for Sunday, February 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the recently opened L.A. LIVE, Kings players, coaches and broadcasters will be on hand to receive a $1 “tip” for an autograph and/or a $2 “tip” for a photograph from their fans. All proceeds benefit the Kings Care Foundation, the club’s award-winning non-profit organization that provides educational and recreational opportunities for children throughout Greater Los Angeles. Tip-A-King Presented By D.I.S.C. Sports & Spine Center in Marina del Rey is the single largest fundraiser for the Kings Care Foundation. Each year the entire Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club and their fans join together for this fun-filled celebration, which for more than 17 years has raised more than $2 million for local children’s charities. Tickets are now on sale to Season Ticket Holders and the General Public at www.aegtickets.com/tipaking. Each individual general admission ticket is $85, while VIP Tickets are $300 each. Further information about the event can be viewed at www.lakings.com or you can call (310) 535-4466.
