STARS LOVE FEBRUARY: The Dallas Stars have gone 5-3-0 thus far during the month of February, and in the calendar year's second month over the last three seasons, the club has posted an impressive 25-7-1 record (77.3% points percentage). Dallas went 8-2-1 in February 2007 and 12-2-0 in February 2008. In the 33 games over the last three February's, Dallas has outscored its opposition 104-65. Since moving to Dallas for the 1993-94 season, the Stars have gone 93-47-19 during the month of February (64.5% points percentage).

RESTORING THE 'D' IN DALLAS: One of the keys to the Stars’ turnaround over the last two months has been defense and penalty killing. The Stars are allowing more than one full goal less in their last 35 games (2.60) than they did in their first 22 games of the season (3.77). On top of that, the last 12 games have been stellar for Dallas D, as the team has given up only 23 goals (1.92 per game). Below is a breakdown of those figures:

Games Goals Against Penalty Killing Times Giving up 1G/Less
First 22 games (Oct. 8 – Nov. 28): 83 (3.77 per game) 74-of-98 (75.5%) 1
Last 35 games (Nov. 30 – current): 91 (2.60 per game) 99-of-121 (81.8%) 5
Last 12 games (Jan. 21 - current) 23 (1.92 per game) 35-of-41 (85.4%) 6

PENALTY KILL HAS KILLED OFF 22 OF 23: The Dallas Stars' penalty kill unit has killed off 22 of the last 23 opponent power play opportunities (95.7%), including 18 straight from Feb. 6-16. In addition, the PK unit has killed off 25 of 29 penalties during the seven games thus far in the month of February (86.2%). Dallas' penalty killers have raised their success rate to 79.0% for the season, its highest percentage since Oct. 15, the third game of the season.

THROW YOUR HATS IN THE AIR: Mike Ribeiro's first career hat trick on Jan. 21 at Florida was Dallas' fifth of the season, which ties with Pittsburgh for the most total hat tricks by a team this season. The most hat tricks in a season by a Dallas Stars club is five, in both 1997-98 and 2003-04, and the franchise record is held by the 1985-86 Minnesota North Stars (11). James Neal (Dec. 23 at Toronto) and Loui Eriksson (Dec. 18 vs. Columbus) have each posted their first career hat tricks this season, while Mark Parrish (Nov. 7 at Anaheim) and Fabian Brunnstom (Oct. 15 vs. Nashville) each did so in their debut with the Stars. The last NHL player prior to Parrish and Brunnstrom to earn a hat trick in his personal debut with a team was Steve Sullivan with Nashville on Feb. 14, 2004. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Dallas Stars are the first team in NHL history to have two players in one season score three goals in their first career game with a club.

NO SHORTIES FOR YOU: The Dallas Stars didn't allow their first (and only) shorthanded goal on the season until Jan. 19 at Tampa Bay, and are tied for second in the league in shorthanded goals against (trailing Philadelphia). The New York Rangers have allowed the most shorthanded goals in the NHL this season (14). The Stars' franchise record for fewest shorthanded goals allowed in a season is four, set in 1970-71 and by the 1998-99 Stanley Cup-winning squad. Last season's Stars club surrendered eight shorties.

DALEY HAS NEW CAREER HIGH IN GOALS: Trevor Daley netted his sixth goal of the season on Jan. 31 at Columbus, breaking his previous career high of five goals, set in 82 games last season. He needs just three more points to tie his career high for points (24, set last season). Among club defenseman, Daley ranks first in goals and tied for second in points (21). He is one of just five players to skate in all 56 games this season, and is currently on a streak of 139 games played (second on the team behind Mike Modano's 170-game streak).

ERIKSSON CONTINUES TORRID PACE: Loui Eriksson posted his 27th goal and 16th assist of the season on Feb. 16 at Columbus, and has points in three straight games (2-3-5), in seven of the last 10 (5-4-9) as well as in nine of the last 13 (6-5-11). With 27 goals and 43 points through 56 games this season, Eriksson has surpassed his previous career-highs of 14 goals and 31 points (set in 69 games last season). With six multiple-goal outings this season, Eriksson ranks third in the NHL shooting percentage (21.8%), fourth in even-strength goals (22) and ninth in goals (27). Eriksson currently leads the Stars in goals, and ranks second in plus/minus (+12), tied for second in game-winners (3) and third in scoring (27-16-43). Eriksson was named the NHL's First Star of the Week on Dec. 22 after scoring six goals in three games (6-0-6) from Dec. 16-20.

LEHTINEN HAD CAREER-BEST EIGHT-GAME POINT STREAK: Jere Lehtinen went scoreless on Feb. 11 vs. Phoenix, snapping a career-best eight-game point streak (4-7-11). His previous career-high was six games, set twice, most recently from Dec. 7-19, 2005 (7-2-9). Lehtinen has points in 11 of the last 16 games (5-10-15) and in 13 of the last 20 (5-12-17), after missing 28 games due to injury earlier in the season. Lehtinen's three points (1-2-3) on Feb. 6 vs. NY Rangers marked his first three-point night since Nov. 5, 2007 at Anaheim (1-2-3). Dallas is 5-0-1 when Lehtinen scores a goal this season.

MODANO STLL HAS IT: Dallas C Mike Modano has points in two of the last three games (0-2-2), and ranks tied-for-second on the club in game-winners (3), third in assists (23), and fourth in both goals (14) and points (37). Modano has skated in a career-high 170 consecutive games, the longest current iron-man streak on the team. He appeared in his seventh career NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25 at Montreal. With a goal (game-winner) and an assist on Nov. 30 vs. Edmonton, Modano became the 31st player in NHL history to reach the 1,300-point plateau. Already the Stars all-time franchise leader in games played, goals, assists, points, game-winning goals, power-play goals and shorthanded goals, Modano became the highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history last season when his two goals on Nov. 7, 2007 at San Jose put him past Phil Housley on that list.

CALDER FOR NEAL??: James Neal connected on his second shootout-deciding goal of the season on Feb. 16 at Columbus, and has netted the most goals by a rookie (18) since the franchise moved to Dallas in 1993. He also ranks tied-for-10th among all rookies in franchise history in goals (Neal Broten holds the franchise record with 38 goals in 1981-82). With points in three of the last six games (2-2-4), in six of the last 10 (5-5-10) as well as seven of the last 12 (5-6-11), Neal ranks first among NHL rookies in shots (117), tied for first in shootout-deciding goals (2), second in goals (18) and power play goals (7), tied for fourth in game-winning goals (2), tied for fifth in points (29). Neal earned his first career NHL hat trick on Dec. 23 at Toronto, plus he has three two-goal games and two three-game scoring streaks this season. He registered game-winning goals in back-to-back games on Jan. 31 and Feb. 3. He also collected three assists in the Upper Deck NHL YoungStars Game on Jan. 24 at All-Star Weekend in Montreal.

NISKANEN RACKING UP HELPERS: Matt Niskanen has assists in six of the last nine games (0-9-9), including a career-high five-game assist streak from Jan. 31-Feb. 8. He earned a career-high three assists on Feb. 6 vs. the NY Rangers, and has seven assists in the last seven games (0-7-7). Niskanen leads all Dallas defensemen in assists (21) and points (25), and is fourth on the club overall in helpers. He has set a career-high for assists in a season, breaking the mark of 19 he set last season, and he is one point shy of his career-high in points (26), set in 78 games in 2007-08.

OTT HAD CAREER-BEST EIGHT-GAME POINT STREAK: Steve Ott was held off the score sheet on Feb. 11 vs. Phoenix, ending his career-best point streak at eight games (6-6-12). His previous high of three games was Nov. 7-11, 2008 (0-3-3). Ott posted a goal and two assists for three points on Feb. 6 vs. NY Rangers, the first three-point game of his career. Ott had a three-game goal streak (3-2-5) from Feb. 5-8, matching the career-long three straight games he scored a goal from Jan. 27-31 (3-2-5). Ott also has goals in six of the last 10 games (6-5-11) and points in 10 of the last 15 (8-7-15). Ott skated in his 300th career NHL game on Jan. 17 vs. Los Angeles.

RIBEIRO AT THE TOP OF STARS' SCORING HEAP: Dallas center Mike Ribeiro posted an assist on Feb. 16 at Columbus, and now has points in eight of the last 12 games (5-9-14) and nine of the last 14 (6-10-16). Tied for 14th in the league in assists (36), Ribeiro leads the club in helpers and points (50), and is second in multiple-point games (12), tied for second in power play goals (5) and fifth in goals (13). Ribeiro collected a natural hat trick on Jan. 21 at Florida for his first career NHL hat trick and had a career-high five-point night at NY Islanders on Oct. 23 (1-4-5). He netted the 100th goal of his NHL career on Dec. 23 at Toronto and recorded four points (2-2-4) on Feb. 6 vs. NY Rangers. He has had three different point streaks of least four games this season: five games from Jan. 21-Feb. 3, 3-5-8; five games from Dec. 16-27, 2-7-9; and four games from Oct. 23-31, 1-7-8.

ROBIDAS HAVING ALL-STAR SEASON: Dallas Stars D Stephane Robidas skated for the Western Conference at the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal, his first career All-Star appearance. Robidas is Dallas' leader in plus/minus (+13), hits (153), blocked shots (84) and average time on ice (24:16), and he is second among club defensemen in assists (18) and third in points (20). Robidas notched his 100th career NHL assist on Feb. 8 vs. Nashville.
